The “Jesus Year!” – 12 months focused on Jesus.

While on a recent trip to Egypt, I felt impressed by Holy Spirit one morning to lay a challenge before the 18-25 year olds.

I called it the “Jesus Year!”I made a very clear call for those who would accept the challenge to take up 4 things as a practical way of living a year in pursuit of Jesus Christ, laying aside other distracting pursuits.

I was speaking to a company of 300+ people thinking that we might get 20-30 people who would take up this challenge.

I gave them a clear call based on these four things…(remember, the covenant is to last 12 months)

1. That they would covenant to pursue love for Jesus above any ‘romantic’ relationships.

2. That they would seek to build the prayer movement in their home context by starting 2 prayer meetings per week with others who would join them; and giving money to prayer meeting needs and the poor.

3. That they would read the scriptures on a daily basis, looking for glimpses of Jesus wherever they read.

4. That they would end all ‘unholy’ friendships or relationships that were not God given, and ask the Lord for holy friendships built on mutual affection for Jesus.  (I asked them to call by cell phone, that night, anyone they needed to break fellowship with due to sinful practices).

I instructed them to focus their bible reading on Jesus and read the entire bible at least twice through in 12 months. I encouraged them to take one Apostolic Prayer per month for use in intercession. I asked them to fast at least two days per week.

I gave my call and about 100 stood! I was overwhelmed.

I asked them if they understood the call I was making. They all answered with a resounding, ‘Yes!’  The camp leaders then joined me as we asked Holy Spirit to mark them and grant them grace. Power came and so many of them were touched and empowered. Rivers of tears flowed as they stood before God offering a year of their lives and he met them with powerful gratitude.

Friends, how about you and I?

Can we give this as a gift to the Lord? Is he calling you to a ‘Jesus Year’?
